Pirjo Roponen-Lunnas
I define myself nowadays as culture activist acting on the field of community art as coordinator and “social architect”. My educational background of social sciences and history as well the years as teacher of visual arts create the steppingstone for my research and grass roots activities with community art.
THE HORIZONS OF COMMUNITY ART
The aim of my study is to analyze community art with interdisciplinary perspectives and as community based art activities. Aesthetics, theories of education and cultural studies are constructing the social meanings of community arts. The first outlook of my study in community art comprises the inquiry and interviews of Finnish community artists. The operational environment of the action research encompasses community art activities in multicultural suburb of Meri-Toppila in city Oulu and the process of building Culture Silo for community art center and as work of art: community art seems to locate on the border of creative and governmental politics of the culture.
